Cement posts 2 – 3 feet into the ground. Always check your local building codes. Gates ordered with Heavy Duty Gate Hinges require 4″ x 4″ Gate Posts. Heavy Duty Gate Hinges will not work with smaller posts.
Order these posts 3 inches longer than the height of your gate. This leaves approx. two inches of space between the gate and the ground. Anchors to be purchased locally based upon the material you’re mounting to. For slight terrain variations, shim the post/plate. For medium/steep slopes, purchase with no plate and core drill. You need 2 gate posts for each gate: 2 BLANKS, 2 ENDS OR 1 OF EACH. BLANK Gate Posts are square, aluminum, powder coated posts with no holes routed in them. An END Gate Post is routed on one side and connects to one fence panel in line with the gate or at 90 degrees. i.e. a Gate Post – END can “act” as a corner post if your gate is positioned at a corner of your barrier. Note: If you select Rings, the top 2 routed holes will be routed differently because rings decrease the spacing between the top two horizontal rails. Additionally, if you select puppy pickets an additional hole will be routed into this post because when you add puppy pickets to any fence panel, an additional horizontal rail is added. 4 rails max.
