Barriers up to 6 foot high should use posts cemented 2 feet into the ground (minimum). 7′ and 8′ high barriers require posts 3 feet in the ground. Always check your local building codes.
Order these posts 3 inches longer than the height of your fence. This leaves approx. two inches of space between the fence and the ground. Anchors to be purchased locally based upon the material you’re connecting to. For slight terrain variations, shim the post/plate.
